Eagles, Lady Eagles advance to SAC semis

The Oklahoma Christian Eagles held off a late John Brown rally to win their Sooner Athletic Conference quarterfinal 86-73 Friday. On the women's side, the Lady Eagles stomped Wayland Baptist 76-56.

Brady Page scored 28 points to lead four Eagles in double figures. Dillon Ripley scored 15, Charles Baldwin 14 and Keith Harris 12.

Oklahoma Christian jumped out to a 47-25 halftime lead, but the Golden Eagles chipped away in the second half behind Brandon Cole's 25 points. JBU cut the lead to six with 2:02 remaining, but the Eagles made six consecutive free throws (by Micah Miles, Baldwin and Page) to put the game away.

The Eagles, seeded fifth, advance to the SAC semifinals at 6 p.m. Saturday against Oklahoma City, the regular-season conference champion. The teams split in the regular season, with OC winning 88-51 last Saturday.

OC's women, seeded second, will play 3-seed Lubbock Christian in the SAC semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Chaparrals in the regular season, including a monumental come-from-behind victory in Lubbock.

The Lady Eagles controlled their quarterfinal contest from the start, leading by as many as 19 on their way to a 44-29 halftime advantage over Wayland's Flying Queens.

Oklahoma Christian opened the second half on a 12-2 run, keyed by eight straight points by Tasha Turney. WBU drew no closer than 19 points the rest of the way.

Turney led all scorers with 18 points. Katie Fariss (14 points), Rachel Martin (12) and Lauren Decker (10) also scored in double figures.
