OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 11, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team never led against Mid-America Christian University as they lost 72-65 on Thursday night in the Eagles' Nest.
While Mid-America Christian never pulled away from the Lady Eagles, they never trailed during the game. After scoring the first two baskets of the game, the Lady Evangels led 5-0 before the Lady Eagles responded with two baskets of their own to trail by one.
The Lady Eagles remained just a step behind the MACU women most of the first half, before the Lady Evangels increased their lead to 10 with 5:21 left in the period. The Lady Eagles then went 9-2 against MACU to trail just by three points with 2:05 remaining. The MACU women responded to OC's pressure scoring another seven points before the half to lead again by 10 going into halftime.
From the start of the second half, the Lady Eagles utilized the first five minutes to put up 15 points in comparison to the Lady Evangels' five to tie the game for the first time.
The Lady Evangels then proceeded on an 11-3 run to gap the OC women once again. The Lady Eagles struggled to respond and were unable make up the difference.
Late in the half, the Lady Eagles decreased a 12-point deficit to four with an 8-0 run and 2:28 left on the game clock.
Despite the Lady Eagles' efforts and two three-point baskets by Kaitlyn Morris in the last minute, the OC women yielded the game to MACU at a seven-point difference and a 72-65 final score.
Kailan DeCamp and Lindsay McCown headed the Lady Eagles' scoring with 15 points apiece. DeCamp added seven boards and two assists while McCown grabbed six rebounds, made two assists, and two steals.
Morris utilized her outside scoring ability to tally 11 points for the night while Brittney Kennedy drew fouls and shot 100 percent from behind the line to assist in her 10-point addition.
The loss leaves the Lady Eagles at 16-8 for the season and 9-7 for the conference.
On Saturday, the Lady Eagles will head across town to play Oklahoma City University in conjunction with the men's team at 3 and 5 p.m.
