OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 13, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team lost a rigorous match to Oklahoma City University 75-71 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles gave the No. 7 Oklahoma City women's team a run for their money taking the Lady Stars into a nail biting overtime period in which they lost 75-71.
During the first half, the Lady Eagles traversed through five ties and seven lead changes before finishing off the half down by one at 31-10. Neither team led by more than six points during the period.
The second half saw six ties and six lead changes as both teams battled to the game's end. With 12:51 left to play, the Lady Eagles trailed OCU 48-40 at the Lady Star's largest lead of the game. The Lady Eagles then stormed back with an 11-3 run to tie the game once again at 51-51 with 6:26 on the clock.
The Lady Stars regained the lead and held it until Lindsay McCown hit a jumper to tie it up 62-62 with 12 seconds left to take the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Lady Eagles scored the first points when Krista Stevens drained two free throws. The OC women took improved their lead to seven points at 70-63 with 2:46 left to play. In response, the Lady Stars rallied to go on a 12-1 run to finish out the overtime period ahead by four, not taking the lead until 26 seconds were left in the game.
McCown erupted for 23 points during the game to lead the Lady Eagles in scoring and controlled the ball under the basket grabbing an additional 11 rebounds.
Seniors Kailan DeCamp and Brittney Kennedy scored 12 points apiece with Decamp making four assists and five rebounds.
From the perimeter, Lisa Chenoweth and Krista Stevens added 11 and nine points, respectively, while Stevens passed out six assists for the night.
The Lady Eagles now carry a 16-9 overall record and sit at 9-8 for conference play.
The Lady Eagles will join the men's team in hosting Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) on Monday night with the women's game starting at 6 p.m. and the men's to follow at 8.
