OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 7, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team suffered only their third loss of the season to conference rival Southern Nazarene University in a 52-47 defeat at the Eagles' Nest Thursday night.
The Lady Eagles started out behind and were unable gain the lead against Southern Nazarene despite several close attempts. During the first half, the Lady Eagles struggled from the field and trailed the SNU women by as many as 14 points before ending the half down 18-30.
At the start of the second half, Lisa Chenoweth hit a three to give the Lady Eagles some momentum and to close the gap. The Lady Eagles rallied and went on a 12-1 run to come within one point of the Crimson Storm. Through several back and forth plays, the Lady Eagles came within one point several times and tied the game twice.
With only 1:29 left in the game, Lindsay McCown hit a basket to tie the game up and give the Lady Eagles a chance. Unable to take the lead, the Lady Eagles fell 52-47.
Chenoweth was a strong part of the Lady Eagles' comeback leading the team with 15 points on the night in addition to five rebounds.
Brittney Kennedy and Lindsay McCown played well down low scoring eight and nine points, respectively. Kennedy grabbed four rebounds while McCown grabbed six for the Lady Eagles. Freshman Roz Hamilton helped control the paint pulling down 11 total rebounds and scoring an additional seven points.
The Lady Eagles are now 12-3 overall and will take on the University of Science and Arts in a women's and men's double header on Saturday at 6 p.m.
