SHAWNEE, Okla. (Jan. 15, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball had no problem storming past Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) on Saturday night as they claimed an 86-48 victory on the road.
The Lady Eagles had no problem shooting out to a large first half lead against the Lady Cavaliers. The OC women out scored the Saint Gregory's women's team 36-17 during the first half.
A perimeter-heavy Lady Eagles squad drained seven three pointers, compared to SGU's one, during the first period and shot 44 percent from behind the arc.
The second period saw a similar fate as the Lady Eagles continued to punish the Lady Cavliers with OC continuing to pull away even further.
By the end of regulation, the Lady Eagles led by 38 points, leaving no chance for SGU. OC continued to dominate from behind the arc as they shot 10-for-13 from three-point range at 77 percent accuracy.
The Lady Eagles did not have any problem scoring from the field in general during the second half, as they maintained 74 percent shooting for the period overall.
With a 38-point victory at 86-48 over the Lady Cavaliers, the Lady Eagles advance to 9-9 overall and to 3-7 for the conference.
Krista Stevens led the scoring for the Lady Eagles with 14 points and 3-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Additionally, Stevens made five rebounds and three assists.
Katy O'Steen continued to control things down low for OC as she put up another 11 points, while Hope Heinan contributed in the paint as well with 11 points of her own.
Ayanna Jackson and Andee Wayne added to the mix as well with nine points apiece while guards Tarynn Branscum and Madison Middle each added another eight points apiece.
The Lady Eagles will join the men's team as they take a Texas road trip take on Wayland Baptist University and Lubbock Christian University. OC will play Wayland Baptist on Thursday with the women's game starting at 6 p.m. and the men's scheduled to follow at 8 p.m.
