Roz Hamilton led Oklahoma Christian in scoring for the third straight game, finishing with 13 points in a 77-56 loss Saturday to Lubbock Christian.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 4, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian lost its 10th straight game, but the Lady Eagles went down fighting against No. 9-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday afternoon.
OC trailed by as many as 26 points but rallied down the stretch to cut the gap to 19 in a 77-56 loss to an LCU team that leads the Sooner Athletic Conference standings and has won 16 straight games.
LCU (18-3, 15-0) outscored OC (7-16, 2-14) only 34-32 in the second half, which pleased OC coach Stephanie Findley.
"We played good," Findley said. "We didn't shoot good, but we played good. Our execution in the second half in defense and rebounding was the best it's been in a long time. We will beat teams if we play like that all the time."
The Lady Eagles outrebounded LCU 40-38, led by 10 rebounds from Andee Wayne, who also scored 12 points to record her first career double-double. OC limited the Chaparrals to 38.7-percent shooting (24 of 62) but the Lady Eagles shot just 33.3 percent (19 of 57).
LCU built a 43-24 halftime lead on the strength of its free-throw shooting. The Chaparrals went 16-of-18 from the line in the half, although one of the misses was by Nicole Hampton, ending her NAIA Division I-record streak of consecutive free throws made at 62. Hampton finished 6-of-7 from the line and had 13 points and 13 rebounds for LCU.
The Chaparrals built their lead to 53-30 on a layup by Hampton with 13:25 left, but OC went on 9-0 run – keyed by two baskets by Mica Havens – to pull within 53-39 with 11:26 left.
LCU rebuilt its lead to 73-47 with 5:14 left, but OC closed the game on a 9-4 spurt.
Roz Hamilton led OC in scoring for the third straight game since returning from a nine-game absence with a hand injury, going 9-of-13 from the line and finishing with 13 points. She also had a team-high five assists.
Emily Atkins went 9-of-10 from the line and led Lubbock Christian with 18 points, while Kelsey Canavan added 17 and April Ehlers had 12.
OC will finish a four-game homestand on Thursday when the Lady Eagles host John Brown (Ark.).
