OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 8, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team fell in a 94-55 struggle against No. 2 Oklahoma City University in Saturday's road game.
The Lady Eagles played through a difficult game as they struggled to score against the No. 2 ranked women's NAIA division I team.
Early in the game, the Lady Eagles created a two-point lead after a Krista Stevens three-point basket before yielding the lead for good.
With 13:00 still left in the first period, the Lady Stars led the OC women by two points before heading on a 13-0 run to create a 15-point margin over the Lady Eagles with 8:35 still left in the half.
The Lady Stars' greatest lead of the period was 16 points but the Lady Eagles managed to cut the gap to 10 points prior to the buzzer at a 44-34 OCU lead.
At the start of the second period, the Lady Eagles put up a 7-0 run to cut the Lady Stars' lead to just three points with the majority of the second half still to play.
OCU responded with a 9-0 run of their own, however, to put the gap back at 12 points for the Lady Eagles.
With 13:20 still left to play, the Lady Stars held the OC women at a 12-point lead before taking to another 9-0 run to increase the margin to 21 points with 10:57 still on the clock.
As the clock ran down, the Lady Eagles struggled to score against the Lady Stars and the gap continued to increase through the end of the period as the OCU women claimed a 94-55 win over OC.
Stevens led the Lady Eagles' scoring with 14 points in addition to three assists while Ayanna Jackson contributed largely as well with 13 points of her own.
Down low, Katy O'Steen put up 11 points and grabbed five boards while Katy Clift added another eights points from perimeter play.
The loss leaves the Lady Eagles to 8-8 overall and to 2-6 for conference play. OC will stay on the road for their next upcoming games as they take on Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla. The women are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with the men's tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.
