OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 25, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team took down John Brown University on Thursday night in the last home game of the season with a 72-54 victory.
The Lady Eagles had no problem controlling the ball against the Lady Golden Eagles as they led nearly the entire game.
In the first half, the John Brown women held within five points of the Lady Eagles until 6:49 showed on the clock when Katy O'Steen sunk a three-pointer to put OC up by 8. Despite the three ties and four lead changes early on, the Lady Eagles utilized a 9-0 run with just 6:28 remaining to put a 14 point gap on JBU at 36-22.
By the end of the period, the Lady Golden Eagles cut the lead down to nine before heading to the locker room with the score showing 41-32.
In the first three minutes of the second half, the JBU women came within three points of the Lady Eagles after an 8-2 run to start the period. The OC women then proceeded to go on a 17-0 scoring streak to lead 60-40 with 7:34 left in the game.
The JBU women were able to cut the gap back down to 13 in just two minutes but the Lady Eagles held firm to the buzzer taking back to an 18-point margin of victory at 72-54.
Senior Kailan DeCamp led the Lady Eagles with numerous drives to the basket scoring 16 points on the night and putting down six of seven free throws. Additionally, DeCamp kept the offense rolling as she passed out five assists during the game.
Lisa Chenoweth, another senior starter for the Lady Eagles, put up a total of 15 points in addition to making three steals for the night.
Freshmen posts, Katy O'Steen and Lindsay McCown put up 12 and 10 points, respecitively, while McCown double-doubled with 10 rebounds as well.
The victory brings the Lady Eagles to 18-11 overall and 11-10 for conference play.
The Lady Eagles will finish out the regular season against Rogers State University (Okla.) on Saturday in a women's and men's doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
