OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 3, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team fell 73-69 at home in the Eagles' Nest on Monday against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
A well matched first period unfolded for the Lady Eagles as they experience five ties and four lead changes during the half. The Lady Drovers grabbed the first basket of the game and were quickly answered by OC's Katy Clift for the tie up.
After the fourth tie up of the period at 11-11 with 14:51 still left on the clock, the USAO women utilized an 11-3 run against the Lady Eagles leaving them at an eight-point deficit with more than half of the period still left to play.
The OC women, responded with an 8-0 run of their own to tie things up once again at 22:22, however, were unable to take the lead as the Lady Drovers held the lead through the half and took a one-point advantage into the locker room.
At the start of the second half, two more ties quickly transpired before the Lady Drovers took the lead for good. With 11:36 left to play, the USAO women pushed to a 10-point advantage over the Lady Eagles.
Over the next four minutes, the Lady Drovers held at least a seven-point lead over the OC women. With just 4:58 left in regulation, the Lady Eagles rallied for a comeback as they put up a 9-2 run to come with just one point of the Lady Drovers with 1:15 till the buzzer.
Despite closing the gap, the Lady Eagles were unable to take the lead as USAO regained a four-point lead before the game ended and claimed the victory at 73-69.
OC's Carli Covalt came away with a 22-point game for the night to lead the Lady Eagles while Clift put up another 15 total points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Katy O'Steen helped down low with 10 points and five boards and Ayanna Jackson contributed from the perimeter with a nine-point game of her own.
The loss leaves the OC women at 7-7 overall and at 1-5 in conference play. The Lady Eagles will stay at home for their next match as they join the men in hosting Mid-America Christian (Okla.) University on Thursday. Tip-off for the women is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
