LUBBOCK, Texas (Jan. 22, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team suffered a 90-60 defeat against Lubbock Christian University (Texas) in Saturday nights' road match.
The Lady Chaparrals got on the board first and quickly jumped to a five-point lead just over a minute in. The Lady Eagles' Katy O'Steen, however, responded with two baskets of her own, including a three pointer, to tie things back up.
After an exchange of baskets and another lead change, the Lubbock Christian women took the lead for good on a 7-0 run. With 12:54 left till the half, the Lady Chaps pushed the lead to eight points before Lady Eagles cut the margin back down to four points just over a minute later.
Several minutes later, the LCU women took their largest lead of the half at 32-21 for an 11-point margin with 7:05 still to play. The Lady Chaps held at least an eight-point lead from that point on, and carried a nine-point lead into the half.
During the second half, the Lady Chaps took little time to further their lead. Less than five minutes in, the Lady Eagles trailed by 16 points as the LCU women gradually increased the gap.
With 12:51 still to play, the Lady Chaps led by 20 points, and pushed it further to 24 just three minutes later. LCU held a steady lead of at least 19 points through the remainder of the game.
A final 14-4 run by the Lady Chaps gave them a 30-point victory over the Lady Eagles at 90-60.
Despite the loss, Katy Clift managed an 18-point game and made three steals in the process. O'Steen totaled 10 points for the evening with an additional seven rebounds.
Krista Stevens and Ayanna Jackson added another nine and seven points, respectively, to the Lady Eagles' total.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 9-11 for the season and to 3-9 for conference play. The OC women will join the men's team as they stay on the road for their next matchup against Rogers State University (Okla.) on Thursday. The women will tip off at 6 p.m. with the men scheduled to follow at 8 p.m.
