Lady Eagles dropped by John Brown

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (Dec. 2, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team fell 82-58 to a talented John Brown University (Ark.) women's squad in Thursday night's road match.

The Lady Eagles took the lead first with a basket from Carli Covalt before the John Brown women followed quickly with the tie up. After regaining the lead two more times, the OC women never led the Lady Golden Eagles again.

With 15:42 still left to play in the first half, the JBU women put up a 10-0 run against the Lady Eagles to leave OC at a nine-point deficit with 11:50 left on the clock. Once the Lady Golden Eagles took a 10-point lead with 11:16 left in the half, the Lady Eagles were unable to come within the 10-point margin again.

Late in the half, the JBU women used another 10-2 run to create their largest lead of the period at an 18-point margin with just 2:11 left till the half. A basket from the Lady Eagles' Ayanna Jackson in the last minute of the half cut the Lady Golden Eagle lead to 16 at 39-23 before time expired.

The Lady Golden Eagles increased their lead to 21 quickly into the second period before the Lady Eagles were able to cut it back down to 15 points with 11:41 remaining to play.

Thereafter, a 12-2 run ensued by the JBU women to leave the Lady Eagles behind by 25 with 7:46 still to play. The Lady Golden Eagles took their largest lead of the game with just 1:20 on the clock at a 28-point advantage.

Two free throws and a field goal from Mica Havens cut the final JBU lead to 24 at 82-58, leaving the Lady Golden Eagles with the victory.

Covalt and Jackson led the Lady Eagles' scoring with 16 points apiece for the evening. Covalt added three steals and three assists while Jackson made four steals during the game.

Perimeter players Krista Stevens and Katy Clift each added another six points apiece for the Lady Eagles with Clift grabbing eight rebounds on the night.

The loss leaves the OC women at 5-2 for the season and a 1-1 record for conference play.

The Lady Eagles will join the men's team in hosting Rogers State University (Okla.) on Saturday at home with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. and the men to follow at 8 p.m.
