Freshman Makenzie Brown scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting for OC in a loss Thursday night at St. Gregory's.
SHAWNEE, Okla. (Dec. 1, 2011) – St. Gregory's shot 65.4 percent from the field in the second half and had five players score in double figures as the Cavaliers remained unbeaten, rallying for an 86-78 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse.
OC (3-3, 0-2 Sooner Athletic Conference) dropped its third straight game after a 3-0 start and saw another player, junior guard Jessica Findley, go down to injury in the first half. The Lady Eagles started the season with 17 players on the roster but entered the game Thursday with only 13 healthy players.
Freshman Makenzie Brown scored a career-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting for OC while Katy O'Steen added 16 points, but the Lady Eagles shot just 36.1 percent (26 of 72) from the field.
The Lady Eagles led by as many as seven points in the first half before settling for a 34-30 halftime lead after a last-second layup by Mica Havens.
But Leticia Silva and Jalisa Howard fueled a dominant second half for St. Gregory's (8-0, 1-0) and finished with 23 and 21 points, respectively. The Cavaliers went 17-of-26 from the field after halftime.
OC trailed only 76-71 after Katy Clift made three free throws with 2:25 left, but Howard responded with a quick basket for the Cavaliers and Silva hit two free throws with 1:31 left to restore the St. Gregory's lead to 81-71. Silva went 13-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Kylie Mayes scored 18 points for St. Gregory's while Brittney Joseph and Tameka Scott added 10 each.
OC will host Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 1 p.m. It will be the Lady Eagles' first home game since their season opener on Nov. 5.
