PORTALES, N.M. -Â The Oklahoma Christian men's and women's track and field teams began the 2025 outdoor conference track and field championships in Portales, N.M. in impressive fashion.Â
The Eagles had multiple athletes progress through the qualifying rounds as well as multiple scoring athletes on the mens side.
In the women's and men's 1500m prelims, both
Kinley Kite and
Jack Sydnes were able to safely progress through to the finals which will be held Saturday, May 3. Kite finished fifth in her prelim with a time of 4:44.24 which was good for the 10th fastest qualifier into the final. Sydnes was also fifth in his prelim with a time of 4:06.41 which qualified him ninth fastest overall.
The men had two athletes score on day one of the championships in the field events. In the hammer throw, Phillip Lawrence finished sixth overall with a throw of 48.05m which started off the scoring for these championships for the Eagles with 3 points. In the men's Triple Jump,
Alex Samples also registered a sixth place finish with a jump of 14.51m.
On the track in the mens 10,000m the Eagles also registered two individual points scorers.
Cole Davenport finished in seventh place in a time of 32:39.24 with
Cole Powell just behind in eighth place in a time of 32:41.81.Â
The men finished day one fourth in the overall team standings with nine points with many more scoring opportunities to come over the next twp days of competition which conclude Saturday, May 3.Â
