Kite Breaks School Record as Eagles Find Success in West Coast Trip

AZUSA, Calif. - A handful of Eagles made the trip out west to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational held at Azusa Pacific University and the California State LA twilight meets.

The performance of the week came from Kinley Kite, who broke the school record and ran a national provisional qualifying mark in the 5000m with a time of 16:55.98 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Kite also competed in the 1500m, where she posted a time of 4:42.81.

Laniyah Curry competed across both meets and recorded top-5 finishes in both. Curry finished fourth in the long jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a jump of 6.11m and also finished second in the 100m at the California State LA twilight with a time of 12.21s.

Laila Ahmed competed in the high jump at both meets, winning the California State LA twilight meet with a jump of 1.60m. She backed up this performance with a jump of 1.63m and a 13th place finish at the Bryan Clay Invitational. 

Jaime Morgan had a busy week, competing in four different events in total. At the Bryan Clay Invitational, she competed in the 400m hurdles, where she ran a time of 1:06.70 and also competed in the long jump finishing with a best mark of 5.52m. At the California State LA twilight she competed in the 100m, finishing with a time of 12.39s and also the 100m hurdles where she recorded a time of 15.80s.

The lone men's performer was Alex Samples, who also competed in four events across the two meet locations. At the California State LA twilight he was able to post two top-3 finishes, winning the high jump with a jump of 1.90m and finishing third in the long jump with a jump of 6.95m. At the Bryan Clay Invitational, he was able to jump 1.91m in the high jump and in the long jump finished with a jump of 6.82m.

The Eagles will finish off their regular season at the University of Arkansas on Friday, Apr. 25 for the John McDonnell Invitational. This will be the last opportunity to post conference qualifying marks which will be held at Eastern New Mexico University beginning May 1st.
