Men's Basketball Hosts Kingsville, International This Weekend

EDMOND, Okla. - With four home games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season, Oklahoma Christian will get half of that through this weekend. Beginning the second-to-last two-game home stand is Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Texas A&M International Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.

EAGLE OUTLOOK (6-14, 3-12 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian comes into this weekend off its highest scoring half in a month. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the first half featured just 15 points and four made field-goals as OC fell on the road to UT Tyler, 76-65. In the opening frame, the maroon-and-gold shot just 18.18 percent (4-of-22) compared to 47.06 percent (16-of-34) in the second 20-minute stint.

The Eagles are seventh in the conference in team field-goal percentage (45.5 percent) but are 16th in total field-goal attempts. Turnovers have been a struggle for the normally efficient scoring offense as OC is pained with the second most turnovers per game in the LSC (15.5).

Oklahoma Christian has continued to be one of the better three-point shooting teams in the conference, holding at fourth in the league in team three-point field-goal percentage (37.1 percent). Aiding that effort has been Marco Foster and Keyondre Young, both of whom became the first OC players to make three or more triples in three straight games since the 2020-21 season. The last player to do it was Foster during his freshman campaign with the maroon-and-gold.

The Eagles fell in the season's first matchup with Texas A&M-Kingsville and International. Against the Dustdevils, OC held a one-point lead with nine seconds left before a last-second layup pushed TAMIU ahead for the 71-70 victory. Kingsville's defense got the better of Oklahoma Christian in their first matchup, holding the maroon-and-gold to just 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from beyond the arc as TAMUK took the win, 79-65.

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE (9-12, 5-10 LSC)
Texas A&M-Kingsville has lost three of its last four games, as well as three of its last four road games, heading into Thursday's contest against Oklahoma Christian. The Javelinas are 3-7 away from home this season, including 2-5 in such conference games.

Texas A&M-Kingsville is one of two teams in the Lone Star Conference with only one player averaging over 10.2 points per game: graduate student guard Isaiah Payne (14.9 ppg). Kingsville is 11th in the LSC at 71.0 points per contest and 14th in team field-goal percentage (41.6). Meanwhile, TAMUK is seventh in opponent field-goal percentage (44.1)

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL (10-14, 5-10 LSC)
Texas A&M International comes to the Sooner State having dropped four of its last five games. During that five-game stretch, four of the five have been decided by eight points or fewer. The Dustdevils are 1-6 on the road this season, all of which TAMIU has lost by double digits, save one.

Texas A&M International relies heavily on its conference-third ranked scoring defense of 66.7 points per game. Meanwhile, TAMIU's offense is last in the league at 66.0 points per game. International joins Texas A&M-Kingsville as the only two LSC teams to boast only one player to average over 10.2 points per game: Anthony Ignowski (12.5 ppg), who scored the game-winner against Oklahoma Christian in the season's first meeting.
