EDMOND, Okla. - For the second straight game, Oklahoma Christian trailed by double digits in the second half before mounting a furious comeback, capped off with a
Carson Jones tip-in with just over one second left to give the Eagles the 83-82 victory over Cameron Thursday night.
The combination of
Miles Gibson (20),
Jason Clark (19) and Jones (19) went for 58 points with the trio also combining to make all 12 of their free-throws.
Ma'Syn Howell, while only having six points, contributed with seven rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Cameron made more field-goals and three-pointers than OC on the evening, but the maroon-and-gray made up the difference at the free-throw line, shooting 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the charity stripe compared to just 54.5 percent (6-of-11) for the Aggies.
While the maroon-and-gray only had 10 turnovers for the game, five of them came in the first five minutes as Cameron raced out of the gate with an 8-0 lead. That headstart allowed CU to go the entire first 20 minutes without trailing, with the game not seeing its first tie until the 17:49 mark of the second half.
Out of the break, there were nine lead changes in the first five and a half minutes of second half action. With the score tied, 63-63, Cameron mounted a 13-2 run to establish its largest lead of the game with 6:34 remaining in regulation, 76-65.
The Eagle defense allowed just two more made field-goals for the Aggies the rest of the way, closing on an 18-6 run. In the closing seconds, trailing by one, Clark missed a three-pointer before
Carson Jones picked up his only offensive rebound of the game, putting the ball back with 1.4 seconds left to give OC the lead and eventual victory.
Oklahoma Christian (11-13, 6-12 LSC) will turn around and head south to Lawton, Okla, to face off with Cameron for the second time in five days in the penultimate regular season contest Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
