Clark and Gibson Carry OC to Upset of No. 15 St. Edward's, 91-89

EDMOND, Okla. - Trailing by as much 19 in the second half, Oklahoma Christian powered back for the NABC top-15 upset Monday night, taking down No. 15 St. Edward's, 91-89.

Jason Clark and Miles Gibson were sensational as the duo recorded 32 and 30 points, respectively, to carry Oklahoma Christian to victory. Clark and Gibson became the first Eagles teammates to score 30 points in the same game in the NCAA Division II era (since 2013).

Clark's 32 points came on 13-of-17 shooting (76.5 percent) while hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers and hitting both of his free-throws while Gibson also took just 17 shots to reach his 30, making 11 shots, including a pair of triples while connecting on all six of his free-throws. Clark added threes block to his career night.

Carson Jones contributed 17 points while Ma'Syn Howell, despite not attempting a field-goal, affected the game on the defensive end with five steals, five rebounds and three assists. The Eagles' defense, after getting bombarded with nine first-half three-pointers from the hot-shooting Hilltoppers, held SEU to just one made triple over the game's final 20 minutes to fuel the comeback.

14 seconds into second-half action, St. Edward's increased its 17-point halftime lead to 19 before Oklahoma Christian ever so slowly began to chip away at the double-digit lead. Over a four-minute stretch halfway through the second half, OC would trim the deficit to single digits before the Hilltoppers reestablished a double-digit lead six different times.

At the 9:36 mark, the Eagles were finally able to break through, holding SEU to without a field-goal until the 5:36 on the clock. At that point, Clark and Jones took over, combining to score the final 16 points for the maroon-and-gray.

With the game tied at 89-89, the Hilltoppers missed two free-throws with 27 seconds left before Howell claimed an offensive rebound off a Gibson missed jumper before Clark got a hold of it, forcing the SEU foul and heading to the charity stripe with just two seconds remaining.

Being able to hear a pen drop in a packed Payne Athletic Center, Clark stepped up to the line and found the bottom of the net on both of the freebies as a St. Edward's half-court heave fell harmlessly to the floor, signaling the upset, 91-89.

Oklahoma Christian (10-13, 5-12 LSC) will remain at home this week when it hosts in-state conference foe Cameron Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
