EDMOND, Okla. - The final two home games of the 2024-25 season are this Thursday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 22 when Sul Ross State and Western New Mexico come to the Payne Athletic Center. Prior to the contest against WNMU Saturday, OC will recognize its seniors as a part of Senior Day.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (7-17, 4-15 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian got a career-high 23 points from
Miles Gibson in just 15 minutes of action despite falling to St. Edward's on the road, 89-76. Gibson shot an efficient 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the floor, including nailing three of his five three-point field-goal attempts, and hitting six free-throws. The Eagles trailed SEU by just two points halfway through the second half, but the Hilltoppers used an 18-2 run over the next five minutes to sprint out ahead in route to the victory.
Senior
Marco Foster scored 19 points off the bench, logging his 14th game this season with at least three three-point field-goals. On the year, Foster has made 72 shots from beyond the arc, which is the most by an OC player since the 2019-20 season. The Lancaster, Texas, native currently leads the LSC with three triples made per game and is fourth in three-point field-goal percentage (42.6 percent).
Oklahoma Christian is one of three schools in the league with two players among the Top-15 scoring leaders, with Foster and
Keyondre Young both averaging 13.9 points per game. Young, who became the first Eagle to score 20 or more in three straight games since the 2018-19 campaign earlier this season, is averaging 14.9 points per contest at home in conference games as opposed to just 9.4 points in such matchups on the road.
Thursday will be just the second all-time meeting between Oklahoma Christian and Sul Ross State and the first time the two have met as conference opponents. The first meeting came back in 1982 when OC defeated the Lobos, 124-76. Saturday is the sixth all-time with Western New Mexico. While the Eagles are undefeated against WNMU in Silver City, N.M., they have never beaten the Mustangs inside the Payne Athletic Center.
SCOUTING SUL ROSS STATE (3-21, 2-17 LSC)
During its first season as a full-time member of the Lone Star Conference, Sul Ross State boasts the second leading scorer in the conference in senior guard Ethan Yancy (17.6 points per game). With the help of Yancy and fellow senior guard Cam Clardy (13.5 ppg), the Lobos are averaging 67.4 points per contest, including scoring an average of 96 points in their conference wins.
Since defeating Texas A&M International back on Thursday, Jan. 23, 82-79, SRSU has lost seven straight games by an average of 17.7 points per game. Sul Ross is just 1-7 on the road this season, with its one win coming in an impressive 110-101 victory over Eastern New Mexico earlier this year.
SCOUTING WESTERN NEW MEXICO (4-21, 3-16 LSC)
Western New Mexico brings the league's sixth-ranked opponent three-point field-goal percentage (32.8 percent) and the ninth-ranked opponent field-goal percentage (44.4 percent) into this weekend's games. In their three LSC victories this season, the Mustangs are holding their opponents to 68.7 points per game.
Two of WNMU's three league wins this season have come on the road, defeating Sul Ross State in the first LSC game of the season, 69-57, before beating now-ranked No. 21 Lubbock Christian, 81-76. In that triumph over the Chaparrals, Western got a pair of 20-point performances from guard-duo Matthew Okoye and Carson Kelly.
