EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian returns to the Payne Athletic Center after a three-match road stint to host St. Edward's Friday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. and then St. Mary's Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (15-7, 7-4 LSC)
Its last time out on the court, Oklahoma Christian swept Cameron in Lawton as it was only the second time this season CU had been swept inside Aggie Gym. The Eagles have now won 12 straight sets and five matches in row - both of which are program records against Lone Star Conference competition. The maroon-and-gray's current five-match win streak is the second longest in the conference.
Oklahoma Christian is 3-1 at home this season in league play, including a five-set win over then-No. 22 Angelo State in what was OC's first win over an AVCA Top-25 team in program history. In the Eagles' four home conference matches, they are hitting .259 compared to .184 in seven such road contests.
The Eagles are one of five teams in the conference with two players boasting 200 or more kills on the season.
Annie Davis (226) and
Chloe Jones (203) lead the OC offense while Jones is sixth in the conference among players with 600 total attacks with a .227 attack percentage. During this winning streak, Jones is hitting .316 and is averaging 3.13 kills and 3.44 digs per set.
Oklahoma Christian is top-3 in the conference in points per set (16.79) and hitting percentage (.232) while being top-5 in both kills per set (13.18) and assists per set (12.40). In comparison, St. Edward's is third in opponent assists (10.02) and opponent kills (10.98) per set while St. Mary's is fourth in blocks per set (2.11) with OC fifth (2.10). Both St. Edward's and St. Mary's are first and second, respectively, in service aces per frame.
Friday will be the seventh all-time meeting against the Hilltoppers with both teams splitting the previous six matchups. Oklahoma Christian is undefeated against St. Edward's at home, with the last such meeting being decided in five sets. Last year's conference meeting in Austin came down to a fifth set as well, with the overall points being in favor of OC, 110-103.
Oklahoma Christian has beaten St. Mary's just once in their six all-time meetings, with StMU holding a two-match win streak over OC. The maroon-and-gray's only win against the Rattlers came inside the Payne Athletic Center in 2023 as the Eagles won, 3-1, behind
Sophie Mae Smith's 20 digs and three service aces.Â
SCOUTING ST. EDWARD'S (7-9, 4-7 LSC)
St. Edward's comes to the Sooner State having won four of its last six after starting out the conference slate 0-5, with its four LSC wins being the most the program has seen since 2022. The Hilltoppers are 2-3 in road conference games this season, with its most recent road contest being a five-set loss to St. Mary's.
St. Edward's is seventh in the league with 13.07 kills per set, but on the other side of the net are the third worst blocking team in the conference at 1.4 blocks per set and have allowed the second most blocks per set (2.28). Freshman middle blocker Grace McDonald leads the SEU defense at the net with 36 total blocks while junior outside Kelli Fording owns a team-high 226 kills while having recorded double-digit kills in 13 straight matches.
SCOUTING ST. MARY'S (10-11, 7-4 LSC)
Entering the weekend, St. Mary's is among the five LSC teams along with Oklahoma Christian to have two players with 200 or more kills. Senior outside hitters Landri Withers (272), who is tied for the fourth-most kills in the conference, and Laurene Robinson (230) lead the Rattler offense with the duo both hitting north of .225.
A veteran St. Mary's squad owes its fourth-most team blocks to yet another senior in middle blocker Dallasstar Johnson, who is third in the league with 1.13 blocks per set. The Rattlers are a perfect 6-0 when recording at least 10 total blocks in conference play and 1-4 when posting fewer than 10 rejections. Oklahoma Christian has allowed double-digit blocks just once this season.Â
