EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian looks to build on the momentum from its pair of victories last weekend when it heads to southwest Texas to take on Sul Ross State Thursday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. CT before taking on Western New Mexico Saturday, Oct. 25 at 12 p.m. MT/1 p.m. CT.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (12-7, 4-4 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian comes into this weekend riding its first two-match winning streak of the conference slate following a pair of home victories over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. In the wins, the Eagles hit better than .300 in consecutive Lone Star Conference matches for the first time in program history.
The maroon-and-gray's offense runs through the duo of outside hitters
Annie Davis (212) and
Chloe Jones (177), who are combined for 43.8 percent of OC's total kills in 2025. Spelling Davis and Jones, however, is
Katy Geurin, who is third on the team with 130 kills while hitting .243 for the best percentage among the trio. In matches this season when Geurin records at least seven kills, the Eagles are 9-2 as opposed to 2-5 when she records fewer than seven kills.
Oklahoma Christian has gotten strong contributions from freshman setter
Summer van Meerveld and freshman libero
Macey Nehring, who are second in assists at 343 and leading the team in digs at 276, respectively. Meerveld is currently eighth in program history in single-season assists and is on pace for 505 assists, which would be the sixth most such assists, while Nehring is on pace for 406 digs, which would be the fourth most in a single season.
Coming into this weekend, OC is 4-4 through eight matches in LSC play for the third time in four years. The Eagles have never started an LSC campaign 6-4. In the maroon-and-gray's four road league matches this season, they are 1-3 following last year's 4-4 road conference record, which was its most such wins since joining the conference in 2020. With nine regular season matches remaining in 2025, Oklahoma Christian has five more LSC matches away from home, including its next three.
In last year's first ever meeting with Sul Ross State, the Eagles swept the Lobos in Alpine, 25-18, 25-18, 25-14. Jones tallied a match-high 11 kills while hitting .526 while Geurin claimed nine winners on a .643 percentage as part of OC's .303 hitting rate across the three frames while holding SRSU to .071.
Oklahoma Christian is meeting Western New Mexico for the fifth time in the teams' history, with OC taking all four previous contests. This will only be the second time the Eagles have faced the Mustangs in Silver City, however, as the maroon-and-gray took down WNMU on its home floor back in 2023, 3-0. On that day, Geurin and Davis led the team with 11 kills each.
SCOUTING SUL ROSS STATE (3-12, 1-8 LSC)
Sul Ross State opened the year 2-0, but have since dropped 12 of its last 13 matches. The Lobos have won just three sets in conference play all season, all of which came in a sweep of Eastern New Mexico last week.
Junior libero BreAnna Quarles leads her team and is 29th in the conference with 2.76 digs per set while being followed by junior defensive specialist Kiara Castillo at 2.50 digs per set. As a team, SRSU is 18th in the league with 14.24 digs per set, but are 15th in allowed kills per frame at 13.11 and ninth in allowed blocks per frame (1.74).
SCOUTING WESTERN NEW MEXICO (9-10, 4-5 LSC)
Western New Mexico comes into the weekend with its best record through a season's first 19 matches since 2016, having already reached its most wins since 2018. While being winless in true road matches this season, WNMU is 7-4 at home, including being 4-1 on Drag's Court in league contests.
The Mustangs, who play Cameron Thursday before hosting OC Saturday, are currently fifth in the conference in opponent assists per set (10.74) and sixth in hitting percentage defense (.167) while the Eagles are fifth in hitting percentage offense (.228). That defense of the Mustangs yields the second-best blocking group in the LSC with 2.45 rejections per frame, with junior middle hitter Brynlee Barris second in the conference with 1.15 blocks per set.
