EDMOND, Okla. - After splitting its first two league matches of the year, Oklahoma Christian begins its home conference slate Friday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. when No. 22 Angelo State comes to the Payne Athletic Center. Less than 24 hours later, UT Permian Basin will make its way into The Nest for the second time this season Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (8-3, 1-1 LSC)
In its first of four trips to the Lone Star State this year, Oklahoma Christian split the two-match road trip with a 3-0 victory over UT Dallas before falling to UT Tyler, 3-0. In the two matches, freshman setter
Summer van Meerveld led the team in assists in both matches, including posting her first career double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs against the Comets.
As of Thursday, Oct. 2, a pair of freshman for the Eagles sit among the league's best with the aforementioned Meerveld positioned at 15th in the LSC with 5.2 assists per set while freshman libero
Macey Nehring is 11th in the conference with 4.22 digs per set.
Lauren Cary is second in the LSC with 0.62 service aces per set as she leads the squad with 16 aces, followed by Meerveld's 15.
In a rematch of last year's opening round of the LSC Tournament, Angelo State kicks off the Eagles' mini home stretch Friday, Oct. 3. The maroon-and-gray's last victory over ASU came in 2022 inside the Payne Athletic Center as Angelo has won nine straight sets over OC, with the Rambelles holding a 4-1 lead in the all-time series.
Saturday, Oct. 4 will be the second time in two weeks Oklahoma Christian has hosted UT Permian Basin with the Falcons making the trip to Edmond for the LSC Challenge back on Thursday, Sept. 18. The Eagles claimed just their second ever victory over the Falcons in what was OC's sixth sweep of the season.
Annie Davis (15) and
Chloe Jones (10) combined for 25 of the maroon-and gray's 41 kills that afternoon while Jones added a team-high 12 digs for her second double-double of the season.
SCOUTING No. 22 ANGELO STATE (8-5, 2-0 LSC)
No. 22 Angelo State comes into Friday's contest with an 8-5 overall record after finishing as last year's national runner-up. The Rambelles have split their last four matches with LSC victories over St. Mary's and St. Edward's, during which they dropped just one set.
While being ASU's third conference match of the season, Friday will be the Rambelles' first road LSC match of the young season. Thanks to a 15-1 conference stand in 2024, Angelo has lost just four road conference matches since the beginning of the 2023 season, one of which came against an AVCA top-10 West Texas A&M team.
Returning from last year's national runner-up squad is outside hitter Madi Parrish, who was a 2024 AVCA Second Team All-American and was named the 2025 LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Parrish leads the Rambelles so far this season with 156 kills, which is third in the league. Among the returners is also middle blocker Cate Boldrick, who is leading ASU at the net with 32 blocks while being third on the team with 67 kills.
SCOUTING UT PERMIAN BASIN (3-9 1-1 LSC)
Permian Basin enters the weekend 3-9 while splitting its opening two conference matches with a 3-1 win over St. Edward's before dropping a four-set match to St. Mary's. The Falcons, before facing Oklahoma Christian Saturday, will play Cameron in Lawton, Okla., Friday in what will be UTPB's first road conference match of 2025.
As of Thursday, Oct. 2, the Falcons are one of 10 teams in the conference with two players boasting 100 kills or more. Freshman outside hitter Makenna Grimes (109) and redshirt sophomore middle hitter Nickilah Whatley (107) lead a UTPB offense that is 11th in the league with 11.85 kills per set and 13th in hitting percentage (.165).
In the season's first meeting between Permian Basin and Oklahoma Christian, Whatley and Grimes were held to just nine and six kills, respectively, as Lauren Demuth led the way with a team-high 11 kills. The Falcons hit just .167 compared to OC's .282, including a .343 percentage across the first two sets for the Eagles, as UTPB fell in three sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22.
