Eagles Make Season's Penultimate Texas Trip Thursday, Saturday

EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian will cross state lines for the second-to-last time this season for this weekend's contests, beginning with No. 8 DBU Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. The Eagles will then take on UT Tyler Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.

EAGLE OUTLOOK (6-12, 3-10 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian comes to Dallas, Texas, currently on a three-game skid where OC's offense has scored more than 60 points just once. The Eagle offense, which at one point was near the top of the conference in points per game, is currently 10th at 72.7 points per contest. The maroon-and-gold are, however, still third in the LSC in team three-point field-goal percentage (37.5 percent). Leading that effort is Marco Foster, who leads the conference and is ninth in NCAA Division II with a 45.2 three-point field-goal percentage.

With nine games remaining in the regular season, seven of those nine games are against divisional opponents, including the next six. Sitting at 2-5 in the division, Oklahoma Christian is currently one game back of fourth. Three of the Eagles' next four opponents are also either 2-5 or 3-4 in the east. In regards to the eight-team LSC postseason, OC is currently four games back of eighth place.

Thursday and Saturday will be the second time this season Oklahoma Christian has met DBU and UT Tyler. Against DBU the first time around, a one-point game at halftime turned into a 15-point Patriot victory as DBU outscored OC in the second half, 41-27. The Eagles shot 60 percent (18-of-30) through the first 20 minutes before making just seven field goals for 30.4 percent (7-of-23) in the second period. The maroon-and-gold also lost the turnover battle, 25-14, to the conference's No. 1 team in turnover margin (+7.64).

Against UT Tyler in the season's first meeting, Foster knocked down six triples for a game-high 28 points, but the rest of the team went 0-15 from long range as the Patriots came away with the 79-75 victory. That victory gave Tyler the edge in the all-time series, 5-4, snapping OC's two-game winning streak over the Patriots. Three of the last four meetings between the two squads have been decided by four points or fewer.

SCOUTING No. 8 DBU (19-3, 11-2 LSC)
No. 8 DBU comes into this weekend after cracking the NABC Top-10, riding a five-game win streak, three of which have been at home. During this winning streak, DBU has scored 90 or more three times, averaging 90.8 points per game over that stretch. The Patriots are 8-2 at home this season and have not lost to Oklahoma Christian inside the Burg Center since Feb. 16, 2015.

Fifth-year guard Ricky Lujan continues to lead the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game as he has scored in double figures in 11 straight games, including his most recent 31-point performance against Eastern New Mexico. Cameron Kahn, who recently became the program's all-time leading scorer, sits behind Lujan at 15 points per outing with back-to-back 20-point showings.

SCOUTING UT TYLER (7-12, 4-9 LSC)
UT Tyler, having dropped five straight, meets Cameron Thursday before hosting Oklahoma Christian Saturday. Similar to OC, Tyler is three games back of eighth place in the LSC standings looking to add two big home wins to its postseason efforts. The Patriots, after failing to score more than 60 points in two of its first three games during this losing stretch, have eclipsed 70 points in its last two games, albeit coming in losses.

UT Tyler still boasts one of the conference's top three-point field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 29.6 percent shooting. In the season's first meeting with OC, the Patriots held the Eagles to 22.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc. While Tyler's offense as a whole doesn't pose a huge threat from deep, having attempted the fifth fewest in the league, senior guard Mareng Gatkuoth is shooting the long ball at a 42.6 percent (29-of-68) clip.
