EDMOND, Okla. - The Oklahoma Christian women's volleyball program begins its fifth season in the Lone Star Conference Friday, Sept. 27 when it takes on UT Tyler in the fourth all-time meeting between the Eagles and the Patriots.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (8-3, 0-0 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian comes into Louise Herrington Patriot Center with its best 11-match start since the program's reinstatement in 2020 at 8-3. Prior to going 1-2 at the LSC Challenge, OC was 7-1 with its only loss coming at the hands of then-No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney.
Against St. Mary's and St. Edward's, OC managed just one set as the opposition was allowed to hit .340 or better in four of the seven sets played between the two matches. On the season, the Eagles are allowing just a .178 attack percentage, which is fourth in the Lone Star Conference. In Oklahoma Christian's three losses, those opponents are hitting .290 or better. In the eight wins, opponents are hitting .250 or worse. A key piece in that Eagles defense is
Megan Rek, who is third in the conference with 1.07 blocks per set.
Camryn McGough is leading the team with a .302 attack percentage while recording 58 kills, which is third on the team. True freshman
Chloe Jones leads the OC offense with 124 kills and is 12th in the conference with 3.18 kills per set. Additionally, Jones has the third best hitting percentage in the league among players who have recorded at least 340 total attacks at .251.
Oklahoma Christian is 0-3 all-time against UT Tyler with the first two meetings being 3-0 sweeps in favor of the Patriots. In 2023, the Eagles went into Herrington Patriot Center and won the first set, 25-20, before failing to reach the 20-point threshold the rest of the way as UTT won the third installment of the conference rivalry, 3-1. Returners
Annie Davis and McGough were key in OC's offensive attack with 15 and nine kills accompanied by a .036 and .185 attack percentage, respectively.
SCOUTING UT TYLER (3-5, 0-0 LSC)
After an 0-3 start to the season, UT Tyler picked up three straight victories at the OBU Fall Tournament, including back-to-back five-set victories over Southwestern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Baptist. Most recently, UTT dropped two matches to Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Kingsville at its LSC Challenge in Kingsville, Texas. Friday will serve as the Patriots' home opener, where they were 10-2 last season.
Junior outside hitter Kota Hartman leads the team with 107 kills and is 15th in the conference with 3.15 kills per set while the Patriots as a team are 13th in the Lone Star with 11.97 kills per set and are hitting .198 for 11th in the league.
