RICHARDSON, Texas - Following the first meet of the season, Oklahoma Christian women's cross country's
Kinley Kite was named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week in the first installment of the award in 2024, the league announced Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Originally from Norman, Okla. (
Norman North HS), Kite is the first OC women's cross country freshman to win the weekly award since
Caroline Karr in 2022, when she was named the conference's Freshman of the Year.
The Sooner State native began the year being named to the LSC Preseason Runners to Watch List before delivering a personal-best time of 17:39 in the women's 5k at the RSU Distance After Dark. The sub-18:00 mark was good enough for third place individually, helping the Eagles finish second as a team.
"Kinley positioned herself well early and really had a strong mid-race," head coach
Wade Miller said. "She, along with the rest of the team, got some great momentum and confidence from our first race and will look to build on that moving forward!"
Up next for Kite and the Oklahoma Christian women's cross country program is the Mustang Derby Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas, hosted by conference-foe Midwestern State.Â
