Keyondre Young was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the final installment of the award for 2024, the league announced Monday, Dec. 23.
This is the first weekly conference award men's basketball has earned this season. The honor came after Young, a senior transfer from NCAA Division I DePaul, tallied 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting and 6-of-7 from long range in the Eagles' 90-82 victory over Cameron.
32 points, along with being the Del City, Okla., native's collegiate career high, is the most points an Oklahoma Christian men's player has scored since Aubrey Johnson scored 35 on Jan. 23, 2020.
In addition to his program scoring benchmark, the former Oklahoma high school standout and 2021 Oklahoma Player of the Year, as voted on by The Oklahoman, became the first OC player since Jordan Box in the 2018-19 season to score 20 or more points in three consecutive games back on Saturday, Nov. 30. Young now has five such games on the season.
The 6'9" guard is currently leading the conference and is tied for 41st in Division IIÂ at 20 points per game. Young is also pacing the league and is fourth in DII after shooting 55.6 percent from three-point range through OC's 10 games.
