Denver, Colo. - The Oklahoma Christian Eagles rounded out their season at the South Central Regional Championships in Denver Colorado Saturday afternoon, Nov 9.
Woman's 6k
The Oklahoma Christian Eagles Cross Country team traveled to Denver, Colo. for the regional championships which featured an 6km race for the woman in what was set to be one of the more memorable cross country races with over a foot of snow covering the majority of the course.
The Eagles finished the day recording an 11th place team finish, beating out all but two Lone Star Conference teams in which they competed against at the conference championships just two weeks ago.
The Eagles were led by All-Conference selection Brooke Latham and 2024 Lone Star Freshman of the Year Kinley Kite, who would finish the race in 35th and 42nd place, respectively, with times of 23:15 and 23:30. The two ladies will be waiting to see in the next couple of days they have done enough to earn an individual bud to the national championships which will take place in California in two weeks time.
Former LSC Freshman of the Year Karoline Karr was the third runner to cross the line for the Eagles finishing in 64th place with a time of 24:09 with Andrea Garcia Gonzalez only 12 seconds back finishing in 74th with a time of 24:21. Kristen Kirk rounded out the top 5 for the eagles finishing in 101st with a time of 25:26. Although the altitude and snow made it as challenging of a race as you could get, the lady eagles were able to put forward one of their best performances ever at the regional championships against several of the top ranked teams in the nation.
Men's 10k
The Oklahoma Christian Men finished its season in Denver, Colo. for the South Central Regional Championships in what was another extremely difficult race due to the conditions much like the conference championships two weeks ago.
The Eagle men were able to record a 20th place team finish with much of the team completing their first ever 10k race. Jack Lindley and Brodey Skipworth were the Eagles' first two runners working together for the majority of the race to record finishes of 102nd and 106th in times of 35:12 and 35:20. The two of them put forward their best races of the year in conditions that were less than optimal and something they are probably never going to race in again.
The duo of Lindley and Skipworth were followed by the remaining three scorers for the eagles which came in essentially as one big pack with Cole Davenport, Cole Powell and Jack Sydnes finishing in 117th, 119th and 120th respectively with times of 35:53,35:57 and 35:58. Much like it has been for the majority of the year the eagles spread was next to nothing with the team able to help each other battle through the harsh Denver conditions. In what was a big year of growth the eagles will be returning all of their top five next year in which they will look to make big leaps.
