Cross Country Caps Regular Season with Strong Outing in Huntsville

RESULTS

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Oklahoma Christian took a trip south to the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers Invitational for a 6km race for the women and an 8km race for the men early Saturday morning, Oct. 12.

Womans 6k

The Oklahoma Christian Eagles cross country team traveled to Huntsville Alabama for the Charger Invitational for a 6km race which featured one of the deepest Division II fields of the year.

In a strong showing, the Eagles recorded a 15th place finish. Junior Brooke Latham paced the Eagles, moving her way through the field for the entire race before eventually recording a Top-20 finish in 19th place with a time of 21:33.

Latham, as was the case at Oklahoma State, was followed behind by freshman Kinley Kite who put herself in front of a handful of runners for a large portion of the race. Kite would go on to finish in 36th place in a time of 21:57.

Karoline Karr was the Eagles' third runner crossing the line in 70th position with a time of 22:32. Freshman twins Kristen and Lauren Kirk rounded out the Eagles' top five with times of 23:39 and 24:17, respectively.

Mens 8k

The Oklahoma Christian men continued its season in Huntsville Alabama for the Charger Invitational, finishing in 21st place in a race which featured multiple nationally ranked teams.

The Eagle men were able to use the strong field to their advantage and record their best results across the entire team for the 8km distance. Senior Ethan Anthony led the OC scorers, finishing in a time of 25:52 for the 8km distance. Freshman Cole Davenport was able to work with Anthony over the closing kilometers to come in just behind in 25:57.

The Eagles last three scorers came in very close together as the freshman trio Brennan Kirk, Jack Sydnes and Cole Powell were separated by only nine seconds for the 8km distance recording times of 26:08, 26:09 and 26:17, respectively. With a 25-second spread across the top five and career best performances, the Eagles are rounding into shape for the upcoming championship season nicely.

Up Next

The Eagles will now turn their attention to two weeks time where they will begin their championship season with the Lone Star Conference Championship in Kingsville, Texas on Oct. 26.
