FORT WORTH, Texas (June 20, 2022) – The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has named Oklahoma Christian softball signee Marissa Powell at its high school all-area player of the year for 2022.

Powell, a senior at Aledo High School, hit .483 with five home runs, a career-high 54 RBIs, 15 doubles and six triples this spring, leading the Ladycats to a 33-3 record and a berth in the Class 5A semifinals. It was Aledo's second straight trip to the 5A state tournament.

She led her team in hits (58), batting average, RBIs and runs scored (48) while posting a .522 on-base percentage. She earlier had been named as the District 5-5A offensive most valuable player.

Over the past two seasons, Powell recorded 110 hits, 13 home runs and 106 RBIs. The 5-foot-8 utility player started as an outfielder for Aledo but also can play in the infield. She played club softball for Impact Gold Fastpitch.
