OC alum Husband to join OBCA Hall of Fame

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 8, 2022) – Former Oklahoma Christian player Donnie Husband will be one of two former Eagles to be inducted next month into the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Husband is a veteran prep hoops coach, with stops at Rush Springs, Silo, Duncan, Blackwell, Latta, Merritt and Keys between 1983 and 2018. His teams qualified for seven state tournaments in Oklahoma, where he won 599 boys games, which ranks 17th on the state's career coaching list. He guided Latta – where he went 271-105 over 13 seasons – to consecutive Class 2A titles in 2013 and 2014.

The past four seasons, he's coached just across the state line at Greenwood (Ark.) High School.

Husband has earned many honors through his career, including being named as the OBCA coach of the year, Oklahoma Coaches Association coach of the year and National High School Southwest Region coach of the year in 2013. He's a two-time OCA regional coach of the year (2013, 2016) and was inducted into the Durant High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.

"It's just great pride," Husband told the Southwest Times Record about his OBCA Hall of Fame selection. "Any time you're recognized into any Hall of Fame, that just gives you a burst of really good feelings. So many of my heroes and guys that I looked up to over the years are in there, so to think that you're standing beside them or in there beside them is just really a great feeling."

Husband played for the Eagles from 1979 to 1983 under coach Jerry Jobe, contributing to some of the best squads in OC history, including the 1982 team that won the NAIA District 9 title.

He'll join another former Jobe player at OC, Lee Reimer, in this year's OBCA Hall of Fame induction class. The induction ceremony will be held on June 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Edmond.
