OKLAHOMA CITY (May 15, 2022) – Posting a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in a 1,500-meter race earned Oklahoma Christian middle-distance runner
Dylan Burrows recognition Sunday as the Eagle of the Week.
Competing in the Lee University Last Chance Meet on Saturday in Cleveland, Tenn., Burrows finished 10th among 47 men in the 1,500 with a time of 3:48.43. The time met the Division II standard, although it didn't rank among the top 50 performances this season in the event.
Still, the sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, likely is headed to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as his top time in the 800 meters ranks in the top 20 nationally.
Others considered for Eagle of the Week include:
--
Rebeca Morales, women's track and field: Morales, who on Friday became OC's first first-team All-Lone Star Conference honoree, posted a career- best time of 2:13.91 in the 800 meters in the Lee University meet, good for 13th place among 31 women. The senior from Riverside, Calif., later took 13th among 34 women in the 1,500 meters, also in a career-best time of 4:40.88.
--
Tristyn Hamilton, softball: The sophomore center fielder from Durant, Okla., was a bright spot for the Eagles in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament in Commerce, Texas. In OC's two games (both losses), she hit .400 with a triple. In a 10-2 loss to Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday, she had an assist that led to a TAMUC runner being thrown out at home plate, then tripled and scored in the sixth inning to help OC avoid a shutout.
The Eagle of the Week award recognizes the top performer in OC athletics for the previous week. The honor is presented each week at least one OC athletic team is in competition.
