RICHARDSON, Texas (May 13, 2022) –
Jelte van Atten (for a second straight year) and
Colton Meyers represented Oklahoma Christian on the Lone Star Conference's All-Academic list for outdoor track and field, released on Friday.
Both van Atten, a middle-distance runner, and Meyers, a distance runner, also made the LSC All-Academic indoor track team earlier this year.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 grade-point average and be at least a sophomore both athletically and academically. The team is selected by sports information directors from the league's member schools, who consider both athletic and academic achievement while voting.
Meyers, a senior from Allen, Texas, carries a 3.553 GPA in Finance. He's earned a slew of athletic and academic awards during his five years at OC. He's twice been recognized as a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic individual honoree, most recently for this past cross country season. He previously was named to the LSC All-Academic team for indoor track in 2020.
He's twice earned the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award and has made either the Lone Star or Heartland Conference academic Honor Roll eight times. He also was named to the Great American Conference's Academic All-Conference list in 2019.
In competition, he's a four-time all-conference honoree in cross country, earning that recognition from the Heartland in 2018 and from the Lone Star in 2019, 2020 and 2021. He was an All-GAC first-team selection in indoor track and field in both the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters in 2019 and was an All-GAC second-team honoree in the outdoor 10,000 meters in 2019.
This season, he earned All-LSC second-team honors outdoors thanks to a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters and a seventh-place showing in the 5,000 meters in the LSC Championships, held last week in Kingsville, Texas.
A junior from Leiden, Netherlands, van Atten carries a 3.811 GPA in Mechanical Engineering at OC. He made the LSC All-Academic list for a fourth time, having also earned the honor both indoors and outdoors in 2021. He's appeared seven times on either the Heartland or Lone Star academic Honor Rolls and also twice earned the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
On the track, he earned All-LSC first-team honors this year as part of OC's distance medley relay team, which won that event at last month's LSC Indoor Championships in Lubbock, Texas, with a meet-record time of 10:12.27. He also finished third in the mile with a time of 4:20.36. Outdoors, he finished 15th in the 800 meters last week in Kingsville.
In 2021, he also earned All-LSC indoor honors, finishing fourth in the mile and second in the DMR.
He also was a three-time All-GAC honoree in 2019 in the DMR, indoor mile and outdoor 1,500 meters.
