WICHITA, Kan. (April 9, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian middle-distance standout
Dylan Burrows posted a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark while winning the 800 meters on Saturday in Wichita State's K.T. Woodman Invitational at Cessna Stadium.
Burrows' winning time of 1:50.91 blew away the rest of the 39-man field, winning by more than 1.6 seconds. As of late Saturday, the time posted by the sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, ranked 16th this season in Division II and was the second-fastest this season by a Lone Star Conference runner.
OC's sprinters also fared well in the meet. Junior
Verrell McBride of Norman, Okla., finished 11th among 90 men in the 200 meters with a time of 21.49 seconds and he placed 18th out of 84 runners in the 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 10.58 seconds. Freshman
Sam Fisher of Norman was 24th in the 200 (21.95 seconds) and 29th in the 100 (10.74 seconds).
Sophomore
Torrion Montgomery of Midwest City, Okla., placed 39th in the 200 meters (22.36 seconds) but posted a top-10 finish in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 6½ inches (6.87 meters).
OC's teams will be split next week, with a contingent headed west to Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., and a larger group staying local to compete in the University of Oklahoma's Sooner Invitational and Multi in Norman, Okla.
