WICHITA, Kan. (April 8, 2022) –
Keiontae Williamson and
Owen Pearce each posted a top-five event finish on Friday night in the distance-event portion of Wichita State's K.T. Woodman Classic at Cessna Stadium.
Williamson, a junior from Vernon, Texas, was fifth among 60 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.60. Teammate
Austin McNair, a sophomore from Denton, Texas, was close behind in seventh place in 1:58.09.
Ninety-four men raced in the 1,500 meters and Pearce – a sophomore from Kingman, Kan., about 40 miles west of Wichita – took fifth in 3:55.14. Senior
Colton Meyers of Allen, Texas (30th in 4:06.48) and sophomore
Ethan Anthony of Mornington, Australia (42nd in 4:11.13) also represented the Eagles in that event.
Sophomore
Colten Brown of Boise City, Okla., placed 15th in a 44-man field in the 10,000 meters in 31:35.29. Freshman
Cade Berkey of Hydro, Okla., posted a personal-best time of 10:19.75 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, good for a 23rd-place finish in a field of 29.
In the lone field event contested on Friday, junior
Jonathan Olsson of Emporia, Kan., finished 11th among 27 throwers in the javelin with a mark of 174 feet, 2 inches (53.09 meters), while sophomore Brandon Zeph of Port Orchard, Wash., took 20th with a mark of 147 feet, 7 inches (44.98 meters).
The meet will continue on Saturday.
