LAWRENCE, Kan. (April 30, 2022) – In two separate 800-meter races, a gaggle of Oklahoma Christian middle-distance runners made their mark on Saturday in the Rock Chalk Classic at Rock Chalk Park.
OC sophomore
Dylan Burrows of Melbourne, Australia, ran in an invitational 800 race and finished second among nine men in 1:49.36, just .17 of a second off his season best. He ranks in the top 15 in the event in NCAA Division II.
In the open 800, four Eagles placed high in the 36-man field. Junior
Keiontae Williamson of Vernon, Texas, was second in 1:55 and was followed in short order by sophomore
Ethan Anthony of Mornington, Australia (sixth in 1:57.57), junior
Jelte van Atten of Leiden, Netherlands (seventh in 1:58.19) and sophomore
Austin McNair of Denton, Texas (11th in 1:58.76).
OC distance runners also fared well. In the invitational 1,500 meters, sophomore
Owen Pearce of Kingman, Kan., took fifth (among nine men) in 3:57.84, and in the open 1,500, sophomore
Colten Brown of Boise City, Okla., placed sixth among 34 runners in a personal-best time of 4:01.26.
In the 5,000 meters, OC senior
Colton Meyers of Allen, Texas, finished fifth among 21 men in 14:45.89.
Junior sprinter
Verrell McBride of Norman, Okla., was 10th among 34 runners in the 200 meters in 21.94 seconds.
In field events, the Eagles' top performances were a pair of fourth-place event showings by sophomore
Chaney Martin of West Plains, Mo., in the pole vault (14 feet, 4 inches/4.37 meters) and sophomore
Wyatt Thiel of Stillwater, Okla., in the high jump (6 feet, 4¾ inches/1.95 meters).
OC will compete next Thursday through Saturday in the Lone Star Conference Championships in Kingsville, Texas.
