Eagles hold steady in softball poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 26, 2022) – A pair of close losses to the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II softball didn't hurt Oklahoma Christian in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll released Tuesday, as the Eagles held at No. 15 for a second straight week.

OC, which was 36-10 entering Tuesday's rescheduled doubleheader at Texas A&M-Commerce, went 2-2 last week. The Eagles swept a doubleheader 3-1 and 1-0 from a strong Arkansas Tech squad last Tuesday before falling 6-2 and 8-4 on Friday at No. 1 Texas-Tyler. OC was tied with or leading the Patriots in the sixth inning of both games.

The Eagles were one of six teams from the Lone Star Conference in this week's top 25. Others include Texas-Tyler, No. 3 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 7 Angelo State (Texas), No. 13 Lubbock Christian (Texas) and No. 20 TAMUC. LSC member West Texas A&M, which had spent the entire season in the poll, fell out of the top 25.

OC was one of three Oklahoma teams in the top 15, joining No. 4 Central Oklahoma and No. 6 Rogers State of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

The top 10 consisted of Texas-Tyler, Indianapolis (Ind.), TAMUK, UCO, Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.), Rogers State, Angelo State, California State-San Marcos, Tampa (Fla.) and Valdosta State (Ga.). Sixteen coaches – two from each of Division II's eight regions – vote in the poll.

After Tuesday's doubleheader at TAMUC, OC will close the regular season on Saturday at Cameron, then prepare for the LSC postseason tournament, to be held May 5-7 on the home field of the regular-season champion, likely Texas-Tyler.
