LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 1, 2022) – For a second straight week, Oklahoma Christian held at No. 18 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's NCAA Division II poll, released Tuesday.
OC (11-4) played only once last week, with freshman pitcher
Grace Anderson twirling a one-hit shutout as the Eagles downed Oklahoma Baptist 5-0 in the final game of the Edmond Regional Festival at Tom Heath Field.
A whopping eight Lone Star Conference teams either made the top 25 or received votes in the poll. Joining OC in the top 25 were No. 1 Texas-Tyler, No. 4 West Texas A&M, No. 6 Angelo State (Texas), No. 15 Texas A&M-Kingsville and No. 23 Texas A&M-Commerce, while St. Mary's (Texas) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) each received votes.
Other Oklahoma teams in the top 25 were No. 8 Rogers State and No. 13 Central Oklahoma, both of which play in the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Sixteen coaches – two from each of Division II's eight regions – vote in the poll.
The top 10 consisted of Texas-Tyler (14-0), Concordia-Irvine (Calif.) (18-0), Valdosta State (Ga.) (12-3), West Texas A&M (11-2), Indianapolis (Ind.) (11-1), Angelo State (15-1), Grand Valley State (Mich.) (5-0), North Georgia (14-6) and Augustana (S.D.) (4-3). OC beat Augustana in the Eagles' season opener.
OC will open its Lone Star Conference schedule this coming weekend with a pair of rugged doubleheaders, at home against Lubbock Christian on Friday at 2 p.m. and at home against Angelo State on Sunday at noon.
