PITTSBURG, Kan. (Feb. 11, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian's distance medley relay team posted a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time and
Colton Meyers finished in the top 10 in the 5,000 meters to lead the Eagles on Friday in Pittsburg State's Indoor Gorilla Classic at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The OC quartet of
Jelte van Atten,
Camden Miller,
Dylan Burrows and
Owen Pearce finished eighth in the 27-team field in the DMR with a season-best time of 9:59.22. While it was a provisional qualifying time, it doesn't rank in the top 20 this season in Division II, meaning the Eagles will need to go lower in the upcoming Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships if they want to qualify for the Division II meet.
Meyers, a senior from Allen, Texas, placed sixth in a field of 54 men in the 5,000, posting a time of 14:54.47.
The Eagles had two other top-10 event finishers on Friday, both in field events.
Torrion Montgomery, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., finished ninth among 31 men in the long jump with a top mark of 22 feet, 4¼ inches (6.81 meters), while
Chaney Martin, a sophomore from West Plains, Mo., took ninth among 16 in the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches (1.88 meters).
In the 200 meters, junior
Verrell McBride placed 23rd of 80 sprinters with a time of 21.88 seconds.
The meet will continue on Saturday.
