PITTSBURG, Kan. (Jan. 21, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian distance runners
Colten Brown and
Colton Meyers finished 1-2 in the 3,000 meters to lead the Eagles on Friday in the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational track and field meet, hosted by Pittsburg State (Kan.) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Brown, a sophomore from Boise City, Okla., set a meet record of 8:38.41 while topping the 33-man field in the 3,000, while Meyers, a senior from Allen, Texas, finished in 8:44.94, a career-best time for him by more than seven seconds.
The duo also joined teammate
Owen Pearce, a sophomore from Kingman, Kan., earlier in the day in running the mile. Brown, running that distance for the first time as a collegian, finished sixth among 41 runners in 4:16.82. Pearce finished 11th in 4:20.79, a career-best time by nearly seven seconds, while Meyers also posted a career-best time of 4:23.16 while finishing 17th.
The Eagles had three runners among the 30 competitors in the 800 meters.
Dylan Burrows, a sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, finished third and met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard with a time of 1:52.61. Junior
Jelte van Atten of Leiden, Netherlands, was fifth in 1:55.02, while sophomore
Austin McNair of Denton, Texas, placed 11th in 1:47.95.
In the 400 meters, sophomore
Camden Miller of Sand Springs, Okla., finished 13th among 43 runners in 50.23 seconds.
The Eagles' quartet of Miller, Burrows, van Atten and McNair placed 10th out of 24 teams in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:24.19. Even with its limited squad, OC placed sixth out of 13 teams in the meet standings with 32 points.
Another group of OC runners will compete on Saturday in the University of Oklahoma's J.D. Martin Invitational at the Mosier Indoor Facility in Norman.
