OC assistant coach Johnson named to Under 30 honor list

OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 25, 2021) – For the second straight year, an Oklahoma Christian assistant basketball coach has been recognized as one of Oklahoma's outstanding young professionals, with men's assistant Chadwick Johnson named last week to the NextGen Under 30 honor list for 2021.

According to its website, the NextGen Under 30 program is in its 11th year and "recognizes the next generation of Oklahoma's innovative, creative and inspiring individuals who push the boundaries in 15 categories of human endeavor."

One of those categories is "Sports and Outdoors" and Johnson was nominated and honored in that area. Johnson is in his first year at OC, having joined the staff of head coach Kendre Talley in May after working the past two seasons across Edmond at Central Oklahoma as an assistant coach.

"I'm thankful God has given me the platform, tools and resources to help inspire others and positively impact my community," Johnson said.

Johnson previously worked for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks in 2018-19 as a player development intern, assisting the staff in player workouts, video breakdown, analytics and scouting. He's from Edmond, having graduated from Santa Fe High School in 2011.

Johnson attended one of OC's sister schools, Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn., playing for the Bisons from 2011-15 and earning his bachelor's degree in Journalism and New Media and his master's degree in Business Management.

He worked in the banking and finance sector in the greater Nashville area for two years while coaching at Nolensville High School in 2017-18, where he served as the head freshman boys coach and varsity boys assistant coach before beginning his work with the Mavericks in 2018.

In 2020, OC women's basketball assistant coach Keeton Peery was named to the NextGen Under 30 list, also in Sports and Outdoors.

Don Swift, the publisher of ionOklahoma, created the NextGen Under 30 award program in 2011. In its 11 years of existence, the program has named more than 1,800 winners from more than 420 companies or organizations throughout Oklahoma.

Johnson and his fellow honorees will be recognized with a "Day at the State Capitol" on Sept. 13 and in an award ceremony on Nov. 12 at a site to be determined.
