OC sprinter McBride officially named to All-America list

NEW ORLEANS (June 1, 2021) – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association made it official on Tuesday, naming Oklahoma Christian sprinter Verrell McBride as a first-team All-American in the 200 meters.

McBride, a sophomore from Norman, Okla., finished eighth in the 200-meter final in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on Saturday in Allendale, Mich., with a time of 21.10 seconds, the second-best of his collegiate career.

The top eight finishers in each event receive All-America first-team honors from the USTFCCCA. McBride is only the second OC track and field athlete to earn an All-America award in an individual event at the Division II level, joining hurdler and sprinter Landon Huslig, who won three such awards, the most recent in 2018, when he took the national title in the 400-meter hurdles.

McBride is the fourth OC athlete in as many sports to earn an All-America honor in 2021, joining Josh Imhoff (men's bowling), Camilla Jarvela (women's golf) and Kali Crandall (softball). All-America teams for men's golf and baseball remain pending.
