CANYON, Texas (May 7, 2021) –
Kelsey Castillo provided a bright spot for Oklahoma Christian on the Eagles' first day in the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday, advancing through a preliminary race into the final of the 800 meters at the West Texas A&M Track and Field Complex.
Castillo, a senior from Edmond, Okla., finished third in the 24-woman race in 2:16.83. Only the top eight finishers in preliminary races advanced, leaving out junior
Payton Duesing of Lantana, Texas (16th in 2:24.80) and junior
Caroline Schwab of Andover, Kan. (2:25.18). Duesing had finished fourth in the 800 in the LSC Indoor Championships in February.
No other OC runner advanced in any event. The highest finisher was sophomore
Bryah Davis of Cedar Hill, Texas, who took 10th in the 100 meters in 12.33 seconds.
In the three field events contested Friday, OC's top performer was junior
Morgan Ray of Edmond in the triple jump. She finished 11th with a top mark of 33 feet, 8½ inches (10.27 meters). Sophomore
Taelor Brown of Pawnee, Okla., led the Eagles' throwers with a 13th-place showing in the hammer with a mark of 138 feet (42.07 meters).
The meet will continue Saturday, with field events starting at 11 a.m. and running events starting at 4:30 p.m.
