Johnson to join OC men’s basketball staff

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 3, 2021) – Chadwick Johnson, who has experience coaching at both the collegiate and professional levels, has joined the Oklahoma Christian men's basketball staff as an assistant coach, OC head coach Kendre Talley said Monday.

Johnson spent the past two seasons across Edmond at Central Oklahoma, working as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bronchos in 2019-20 and as a part-time assistant coach this past season.

He previously worked for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks in 2018-19 as a player development intern, assisting the staff in player workouts, video breakdown, analytics and scouting. Johnson will replace Luis Lopez – who is moving into a position in OC's Advancement office – on Talley's coaching staff.

"I'm excited to have Chad on board," Talley said. "When starting my search, I knew I needed a guy with experience at this level, and also a guy who was familiar with the recruiting trails and also our state. Chad brings energy and passion that I know for sure our guys will embrace and respond to."

Johnson attended Edmond Santa Fe High School, graduating in 2011. He attended one of OC's sister schools, Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn., playing for the Bisons from 2011-15 and earning his bachelor's degree in Journalism and New Media and his master's degree in Business Management.

He worked in the banking and finance sector in the greater Nashville area for two years while coaching at Nolensville High School in 2017-18, where he served as the head freshman boys coach and varsity boys assistant coach before beginning his work with the Mavericks in 2018.

He continued to work for Dallas as an independent analytics assistant during the 2019-20 season while additionally working as a volunteer coach at UCO.

"I expect him to come in and make players better right away," Talley said. "His experience with the Mavericks and UCO in player development have made him a specialist. When you think of a guy who will represent your program the right way, lead your guys on and off the court, and will be a loyal and supportive assistant, Chad is the person."
