CLEVELAND, Tenn. (May 15, 2021) –
Dylan Burrows lowered his NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters to lead Oklahoma Christian on Saturday in the Lee University Last Chance Meet at the Lee Multi-Sports Complex.
Burrows, a sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, who was coming off a Lone Star Conference championship in the 800 last Saturday, finished 11th in a competitive field of 34 runners with a career-best time of 1:50.88. That ranks 21st in Division II this season and improves Burrows' chance of perhaps squeezing into the field for the Division II Outdoor Championships in Michigan later this month.
Also in the 800, sophomore
Austin McNair of Denton, Texas, had a career-best time of 1:55.41 while placing 22nd.
OC freshman
Ethan Anthony of Mornington, Australia, had a career-best time of 4:01.20 in the 1,500 meters. His distance-running teammate, sophomore
Colten Brown of Boise City, Okla., topped the 5,000-meter field of 10 men with a time of 15:01.64.
OC's top finisher in field events was freshman
Alex Samples of Edmond, Okla., who placed fifth in the high jump with a top mark of 6 feet, 4¾ inches (1.95 meters). Teammate
Oscar Littlechief of Edmond jumped 6 feet, ¾ inch (1.85 meters).
Both Samples and Littlechief also competed in the long jump along with freshman
Chaney Martin of West Plains, Mo. Samples took 13th among 25 men with a leap of 21 feet, 11½ inches (6.69 meters), with Martin at 20 feet, 11¼ inches (6.38 meters) and Littlechief at 20 feet, 9 inches (6.32 meters).
In the triple jump, Samples placed 11th of 15 men with a top mark of 42 feet, 11½ inches (13.09 meters).
The meet at Lee was the final one of the season for most OC athletes. Sprinter
Verrell McBride, who didn't run Saturday, is all but certain to be in the field for the 200 meters at the Division II outdoor meet, set for May 26-29 in Allendale, Mich., and Burrows should learn next week whether or not he made the cut in the 800 meters for that meet.
