WINFIELD, Kan. (May 1, 2021) – Griffin Chesire won in his first collegiate attempt at the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Oscar Littlechief and Ethan Anthony posted career-best marks/times on Saturday for Oklahoma Christian in the Southwestern Relays.

Chesire, a freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, took top honors in the steeplechase in 10:49.60. Anthony, a sophomore from Mornington, Australia, took fourth among 38 runners in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:56.73.

Littlechief, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., had a career-best mark of 6 feet, 3½ inches (1.92 meters) in the high jump, good for fifth among the 11 jumpers. He placed fourth among 16 in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 10¼ inches (6.66 meters).

The Eagles' other competitor in the meet was sprinter Verrell McBride. The junior from Norman, Okla., took 10th among 48 runners in the 100 meters in 10.76 seconds.

The Eagles now will point toward the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships, which will begin a three-day run on Thursday in Canyon, Texas, at West Texas A&M.
