OC softball still ‘under consideration’ for NCAA tournament bid

INDIANAPOLIS (April 28, 2021) – For a second straight week, Oklahoma Christian was listed Wednesday as "under consideration" for a NCAA Division II softball regional tournament bid.

OC (33-5) was one of eight teams listed in alphabetical order as under consideration in the South Central Region. The others were Angelo State (Texas) (29-11), Colorado Mesa (30-2), Lubbock Christian (Texas) (27-14), Texas A&M International (24-17), Texas A&M-Kingsville (22-10), Texas A&M-Commerce (25-12) and West Texas A&M (28-10). All but Colorado Mesa are members of the Lone Star Conference.

OC has an 11-1 record this season against the other teams under consideration.

The NCAA said that "due to the disparity of games played this season and the limited data available, schools are listed as 'under consideration' in alphabetical order for #D2SB championship selection." There was no indication when the NCAA might list teams in rank order, although the final scheduled regional ranking is set for next Wednesday.

The field for the Division II tournament – reduced this season from 64 to 48 teams due to the COVID-19 pandemic – will be announced May 16. Six teams will be in the field for the South Central Regional, which will be hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce – the LSC tournament champion, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament champion and four at-large selections.
