LSC recognizes McBride as men’s track athlete of the week

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 21, 2021) – For the first time in his standout career, Oklahoma Christian sprinter Verrell McBride was named Wednesday as the Lone Star Conference's men's track athlete of the week.

McBride, a junior from Norman, won the 200 meters while posting a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the University of Oklahoma's Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla., on Saturday.

On a cool day with overcast skies and temperatures in the 50s, McBride beat six NCAA Division I runners while winning the 200 in a career-best time of 21.19 seconds, which ranks as the 13th-best time this season in Division II and the second-fastest this season by a LSC sprinter.

McBride also finished fifth in the 100-meter final in 10.87 seconds, beating a pair of Division I runners and finishing behind only three runners from OU and a non-collegiate runner. He had posted a career-best 100 time of 10.72 in the preliminary round.
