LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 24, 2021) – After a 2-2 week, Oklahoma Christian dropped eight spots to No. 16 in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II softball poll, released Wednesday.
The Eagles peaked (for now) at No. 8 last week before splitting doubleheaders at Lone Star Conference rivals St. Edward's (Texas) and St. Mary's (Texas), dropping OC's record to 17-5.
OC, the preseason LSC favorite, now is the fifth-highest-ranked team from the conference in the national poll, trailing No. 2 Texas A&M-Commerce, No. 6 Texas-Tyler, No. 10 West Texas A&M and No. 14 Texas A&M-Kingsville. A sixth LSC team, Angelo State (Texas), is at No. 24.
The top 10 consisted of North Georgia (12-0), TAMUC (18-4), Augustana (S.D.) (8-2), Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) (22-1), Rollins (Fla.) (8-0), Texas-Tyler (18-4), Valdosta State (Ga.) 16-3), Concordia-Irvine (Calif.) (9-4), Southern Arkansas (9-3) and West Texas A&M (18-6).
Other Oklahoma teams in the poll include No. 12 Rogers State (12-6) and No. 25 Central Oklahoma (14-6), both of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The NFCA poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, with two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
OC is 4-3 against ranked teams this season, going 1-2 against Concordia-Irvine (in Las Vegas), 2-0 against Angelo State (on the road) and 1-1 against TAMUK (at home). The Eagles have doubleheaders remaining with TAMUC, Texas-Tyler and West Texas A&M.
The Eagles were hosting Arkansas Tech in a nonconference doubleheader at home Wednesday before road doubleheaders at LSC opponents Midwestern State (Texas) on Friday and Texas Woman's on Sunday.
