PITTSBURG, Kan. (Feb. 13, 2021) –
Dylan Burrows posted a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters and
Colten Brown took second in the 3,000 meters as Oklahoma Christian finished its abbreviated indoor track and field regular season in the Indoor Gorilla Classic.
Running on a fast track at the Robert W. Plaster Center, Burrows – a sophomore from Melbourne, Australia – took third among 16 runners in the 800 in a career-best time of 1:51.73. The time ranked as the 15th-best this season in Division II in the event. OC junior
Jelte van Atten of Leiden, Netherlands, finished ninth in the race in 1:56.71.
Burrows also ran on the Eagles' distance medley relay team that posted a provisional qualifying time in that event on Friday night.
Brown, a sophomore from Boise City, Okla., who won the 5,000 meters on Friday night, bounced back well in the 3,000, run less than 24 hours later. He was a solid second behind the winner, Bryce Grahn of meet host Pittsburg State (Kan.), posting a career-best time of 8:40.23. Brown's teammate, freshman
Griffin Chesire of Eldoret, Kenya, finished sixth in the nine-man field in a season-best time of 9:12.78.
Every other OC runner competing Saturday posted a career-best time in his event.
Joseph Owens, a senior from Mobile, Ala., was third of eight runners in the 60 meters in 6.92 seconds. In the 400 meters, sophomore
Camden Miller of Sand Springs, Okla., was 13th (50.39 seconds) while sophomore
Austin McNair of Denton, Texas, was 32nd (54.68 seconds).
In the mile, all three Eagles also had career-best times.
Owen Pearce, a sophomore from Kingman, Kan., was ninth among 25 runners in 4:27.46, with McNair 15th in 4:31.78 and
Colton Meyers, a senior from Allen, Texas, 17th in 4:32.54.
In field events, OC junior
Jonathan Olsson of Emporia, Kan., was fourth in the shot put with a top throw of 46 feet, 5½ inches (14.16 meters), with
Chaney Martin, a freshman from West Plains, Mo., sixth at 28 feet, 5 inches (8.66 meters).
Alex Samples, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., took third in the triple jump at 42 feet, 4 inches (12.90 meters), and
Keenan Lee, a junior from Edmond, was sixth in the pole vault at 13 feet, 7¾ inches (4.16 meters).
The Eagles are scheduled to run next Saturday and Sunday in the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships at Texas Tech's Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
