PITTSBURG, Kan. (Dec. 4, 2021) -- Coby Trevino's fifth-place finish in the 400 meters led Oklahoma Christian on Saturday as the Eagles opened their indoor track and field season in Pittsburg State's Crimson and Gold Invitational at the Robert W. Plaster Center. 
 
Trevino, a junior from Tuttle, Okla., ran a career-best time of 49.65 seconds. Also competing in the 33-man field in the 400 were OC sprinters Verrell McBride (21st in 52.29 seconds) and freshman Elijah Edwards (22nd in 52.50 seconds). It was only the second collegiate open 400-meter race for McBride, a junior from Norman, Okla., who was a NCAA Division II All-America in the outdoor 200 meters in 2021. 
 
Martin, a sophomore from West Plains, Mo., posted career-best times in two events, placing 10th among 32 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.45 seconds and 18th among 38 runners in the 300 meters in 36.75 seconds. The 300 meters is not an official NCAA event, but is run at the Pitt State meet because the facility's track is that distance. 
 
Distance runner Colten Brown, a sophomore from Boise City, Okla., finished 10th of 46 runners in the 5,000 meters in a career-best time of 14:46.16. 
 
In field events, Torrion Montgomery, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., led the Eagles in his debut meet after transferring from MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.). Montgomery finished seventh among 34 men in the long jump with a top mark of 22 feet, 3¾ inches (6.80 meters) and eighth among 13 in the triple jump with a career-best effort of 43 feet, 6 inches (13.26 meters). 
 
OC sophomore Alex Samples of Edmond, Okla., took seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet, 9¼ inches (13.34 meters).
