TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 29, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's
Kenya Bailey took third place in the 5,000 meters on Friday night, leading the Eagles' first-day performers in the Washburn Open at the Washburn Indoor Facility, the Eagles' first meet of the indoor track and field season.
Bailey, a junior from Ponca City, Okla., ran a career-best 5K time of 18:00.00, missing second place in the 20-woman field by just .06 of a second.
OC had three competitors in the weight throw, with
Taelor Brown, a sophomore from Pawnee, Okla., leading the way with a 17th-place finish in the 36-woman field with a top throw of 43 feet, 5¾ inches (13.25 meters).
Leah Oguntope, a freshman from Houston was 28th at 35 feet, 1¼ inches (10.70 meters), with
Nikkita Addy, a freshman from Moore, Okla., another spot back at 34 feet, 11 inches (10.64 meters).
In the long jump, OC junior
Morgan Ray of Edmond, Okla. had a top mark of 14 feet, 9¼ inches (4.50 meters).
The Eagles' distance medley relay team of
Emma Davison,
Shenna Daum,
Payton Duesing and
Caroline Schwab placed eighth among 13 squads with a time of 13:06.19.
The meet will continue on Saturday.
